Every year on April 1, people celebrate the formation of Odisha as a distinct state by carving it out of the former Madras Presidency’s then-Bihar and Orissa provinces. This holiday is also known as Utkal Divas or Utkala Dibasa. The ancient home of Lord Jagannath will commemorate its 87th Foundation Day, also known as Odisha Day, this year in order to remember and celebrate its battle to become an independent state.
