Bajirao I, one of the finest warriors in Indian history, reigned as Peshwa (Prime Minister) to the fourth Maratha Chhatrapati (king) Shahu from 1720 till his death on April 28, 1740. Bajirao I, who is regarded as the most important of the nine Peshwas from the Bhat line, altered the political landscape of India in the middle of the eighteenth century.
