The International Day of Non-Violence is observed on 2nd October, the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi.
As Mahatma Gandhi lead the Indian Freedom Fight with the weapon of non-violence, to honour him International Day of Non-Violence is established and celebrated on his birthday.
Say no to Violence is the essence of this day.
The UN General Assembly with its resolution A/RES/61/271 established this day on 15th June 2007.
The resolution reaffirms “the universal relevance of the principle of non-violence” and the desire “to secure a culture of peace, tolerance, understanding and non-violence”.
This day is observed to spread the message of non-violence through public awareness and education.
