Lal Bahadur Shastri served as the second Prime Minister of India from 1964 to 1966.
To join Non-Cooperation Movement, Shastriji left High School during his 10th standard and joined the Benaras branch of Congress Party as a volunteer and actively participated in anti-government demonstrations.
In 1928 Shastri became an active and mature member of the Indian National Congress and fought for the freedom under the guidance of Mahatma Gandhi.
Shastriji created National Dairy Development Board and also supported Amul Milk Co-operative of Anand, Gujarat to promote the White Revolution (a national campaign to increase the production and supply of milk).
During Indo-Pak war of 1965 he gave voice to the slogan Jai Jawan ! Jai Kishan !
Shastri died in Tashkent, Uzbekistan (then Soviet Union) on 11 January 1966, one day after signing a peace treaty to end the 1965 Indo-Pakistan War.
